 Ondine’s Story

Young Ondine

It has to be said I’ve always been attracted to beautiful fabrics. Even at an early age I would spend hours trawling through my mother’s sewing box searching for the perfect combination of coloured materials, silk threads, beautiful vintage glass buttons and, using my grandmothers ancient Singer sewing machine, would spend hours creating ‘bespoke elegant ‘ garments to adorn our long suffering Labrador.

Some time later I trained at Edinburgh College of Art graduating with a BA (Hons) in Design and went on to work as an illustrator but still found myself drawn to collecting fabrics and incorporating them into bright collages for a range of corporate clients. In 1996 I set up a successful bespoke wedding stationary business and it was one particular bride that requested tweed cushions, tweed covered photo albums and tweed lavender bags for her favours all with embellished heart motifs that sent me on a tangent that became an all encompassing business.

Ondine and Poppy

Today I work from my studio in Cramond north of Edinburgh. I use beautiful soft tweeds sourced from the north of Scotland complimented by colourful cottons and embroidered vintge fabricsI design and produce cushions, tote bags, tea and coffee cosies, lavender hearts and tweed covered note books using both plain bright colours and traditional checks decorated with applied motifs and funky buttons giving traditional fabrics a contemporary twist.

I work with well established organisations, galleries and boutiques as well as undertaking individual commissions for a loyal customer base both here and abroad.
